Hello! I’m Richard Howes and I graduated top of my year in Chinese Studies with a first class BA (Hons) degree from Durham University in 1998 and after 6 months in Taiwan and 6 months in Japan, I went on to obtain an M.Phil in International Relations from the lawyers' college, Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where I held the Lord Morris of Borth-y-Gest Studentship.

After graduating from Cambridge in 2000, I was offered a training contract to become a solicitor with Stephenson Harwood in London, upon completion of the PgDL and LPC. By 2 -3 years' PQE I was a solicitor at the Chambers and Legal 500 top tier commercial property firm, Berwin Leighton Paisner.

Now I practice law on a consultancy basis. I also have a strong grasp of Mandarin and French and a good cultural knowledge of East Asia (Taiwan, China, Japan and Singapore where I lived for five and a half years), so I also engage in translation work in the Chinese and French languages.
